If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, starting from the John & Judy Gay Public Library:
- Take Eldorado Pkwy west, then turn right onto Custer Rd. Turn right onto Virginia Pkwy, and we’re the third building along, in the same strip as the Domino’s.
- Take Hillsdale Dr north, then turn left onto Coronado Dr, then right onto Stonebridge Dr. Turn left onto Virginia Pkwy, and continue around the bend. When you’re about level with the Home Depot, turn left into our parking lot.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
McKinney, Texas, has a rich history that dates back to March 24, 1849, when William Davis, who owned 3,000 acres where McKinney now stands, generously donated 120 acres for the establishment of the townsite. By 1859, McKinney was incorporated, adopting a commission form of government in 1913. Initially, McKinney thrived as the principal commercial hub for Collin County. It provided essential services and goods such as flour, corn, and cotton products, supported by cotton mills, gins, and an oil mill. The community also hosted banks, churches, schools, newspapers, and by the 1880s, even an opera house. Over time, other industries like textile mills, an ice company, a large dairy, and a garment manufacturing company contributed to its growth, pushing the population from just 35 in 1848 to 4,714 by 1912.
Named after Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and a congressman of the Republic of Texas, the city and county hold a notable place in Texas history.
